Conservation Projects

The expert technicians and specialists in our state's Soil & Water Conservation Districts work on many projects throughout the year. Below are just a few of our key conservation programs.

SOIL

SWCDs are committed to promoting and enhancing healthy soils across Minnesota, whether it is to support grazing land, rangeland, agricultural land, or urban and community land. Learn more about the

Economics of Soil Health Systems.

WATER

MASWCD works to improve and protect water resources by providing SWCDs with the training and technical assistance they need to advise local landowners on nutrient management strategies and erosion prevention practices.

Learn about water quality, quantity and management here.

FORESTRY

In Minnesota, almost one-third of our state—about 33 percent—is forested and home to 53 native tree species.

Conservation of private and public forestland is of critical importance to MASWCD and our SWCDs. Read about the latest in forest policy and management in NACD's monthly publication of Forestry Notes.

TRAININGS

MASWCD provides educational trainings and events that give SWCDs the tools they need to inform and educate the public they serve. We work side by side with SWCDs to promote and support voluntary natural resource programs that benefit communities across the state.

Visit our trainings, meetings & events page here.

WILDLIFE

SWCDs work alongside landowners and communities to restore habitat, improve water quality, and protect the natural features and resources that sustain wildlife species. Learn more about Minnesota Wildlife.
