St. Paul, Minn. - In an effort to
educate and inform the public about the candidates they'll be voting for
on November 4, the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation
Districts (MASWCD) has solicited and compiled candidate profiles
from those seeking the position of SWCD Supervisor.
Candidate mail and e-mail addresses
were
gathered from the Minnesota
Secretary of State's web site and MASWCD's Supervisor e-mail
database. Questionnaires went out the week of July 28th with an
August 15 response deadline. Participation in was voluntary. Candidate responses
are now posted on
the MASWCD web site.
"The MASWCD Board of Directors identified SWCD Election Awareness as a top priority for the Association
this year," noted Ken Pederson, MASWCD President. "We feel it's
important to do what we can to assist the public, to provide them with
information so they feel like they can make an educated decision when
they cast their votes this November."
SWCD Supervisor Candidates are elected at-large on the ballot, except for
Washington Conservation District in the Twin Cities, where candidates
are elected by each individual nomination district within the county.
(see "What
is an SWCD?" for more information on Minnesota's Soil and Water
