MASWCD offers several award programs to recognize the outstanding conservation achievements taking place through SWCDs and their cooperators.

 

2011 Award Winners

    MASWCD Outstanding SWCD Supervisor Award

Steve Flohrs, Martin SWCD Supervisor

Honors an SWCD Supervisor who has demonstrated leadership and achieved significant results in the conservation of Minnesota’s soil and water resources.

    MASWCD Legislator of the Year

State Representative Paul Torkelson

Presented to a legislator who promotes natural resource conservation through the legislative process, and who recognizes the key role that Soil and Water Conservation Districts can play in the delivery of conservation practices on private lands.

MASWCD/MPCA Community Conservationist Award

Paul Spilseth, Stillwater Country Club, Washington CD

Honors an individual, business, municipality, or organization for their concern, cooperation, and/or implementation of conservation practices in a community environment.

    MASWCD/MnDOT Living Snow Fence Achievement Award

West Otter Tail SWCD

Recognizes an SWCD which has put forth extraordinary effort in establishing living snow fences in Minnesota. Living snow fences not only provide the public with the benefit of safer winter driving, but also provide the conservation benefits of improved water quality, better soil erosion control, reduced flooding, carbon sequestration and potential wildlife habitat.

MASWCD/DNR Division of Forestry Outstanding Forest Steward Award

Melvin and Sheila Rosholt, Itasca SWCD

Honors landowners who have implemented innovative forestry conservation activities, demonstrated leadership and achieved significant results in the protection of Minnesota’s forestry resources.

    DNR Division of Ecological and Water Resources Appreciation Award

Todd SWCD

Honors an SWCD which has implemented innovative conservation activities, demonstrated leadership and achieved significant results in the protection of Minnesota’s land and water resources.

MASWCD Media Award

Julie Buntjer, Daily Globe, Nobles SWCD

Honors an individual or organization for enhancing the visibility of SWCDs and their programs in Minnesota.

MASWCD Teacher Award

Joe Beattie, Hastings High School, Dakota SWCD

Honors a K-12 educator/professional teacher who has created innovative conservation education activities for reaching students.
