2008 Award recipients were recognized at the MASWCD Annual Convention, December 7-9, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza St. Paul Riverfront Hotel.

 

MASWCD District Capacity/SWCD of the Year Award

    TODD SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT

  • Stimulates leadership within Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) to go above and beyond the base capacity.  This will help SWCDs to enable every citizen in Minnesota to be conservation minded, so that every acre of Minnesota land can be used according to its capability and treated according to its need for conservation and development.

MASWCD Legislator of the Year Award

  • Right:  Rep. Hansen addresses the attendees after receiving the MASWCD Legislator of the Year Award.  Rep. Hansen is a former SWCD board member and a tremendous advocate for SWCDs in the legislature.  This past year he was instrumental in the passage of state bonding funds for the Reinvest in Minnesota Program (RIM) which in turn helped to bring to Minnesota millions of matching dollars from the federal Wetland Reserve Program (WRP).

MASWCD/MnDOT Living Snow Fence Achievement Award

  • New for 2008, this award recognizes an SWCD which has put forth extraordinary effort in establishing living snow fences in Minnesota. Living snow fences not only provide the public with the benefit of safer winter driving, but also provide the conservation benefits of improved water quality, better soil erosion control, reduced flooding, carbon sequestration and potential wildlife habitat.
